What’s Going on With the Cardinals?
After a superb start of the 2021 season, the Arizona Cardinals are now facing a sort of crisis. They’re 10-4 on the season, and with the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers breathing by their necks, they could end up without the NFC West title.
On the bright side, they have nothing to worry about their postseason future. Whatever happens by the end of the regular season, they will get to playoffs, one way or another – by winning the division or via Wild Card.
Still, this doesn’t mean that they’ve already given up on the regular season in order to focus on what comes next. However, it does seem like that, especially knowing what happened in Week 16. Last Sunday, one of the biggest upsets of the season happened – the Cardinals lost to the Detroit Lions.
Before that game, the Lions were 2-11-1 on the season, which was the worst record in the entire league. The final score was 30-12, with Arizona’s offense scoring just one touchdown. That surely isn’t something you’d expect to see from Kyler Murray and Co.
The good news is that they have a chance to bounce back with a win in Week 17. The bad news is that they’re taking on the surging Indianapolis Colts, who are coming off a win over the mighty New England Patriots.
Pumped-Up Colts Determined to Win
With an 8-6 record, they’re sitting in the #2 position in the AFC South. They have just one win fewer than the team from the top of the divisional table, the Tennessee Titans. What this means is that if they win all of their remaining three games, the Colts could win themselves a divisional title.
Even if they don’t win the AFC South, a few more wins would help them secure a place in the postseason via Wild Card. Their current record is such that if the season ended today, they would get to the playoffs.
Unfortunately for them, there are several teams that could overtake them in the rankings, which is why it’s a priority for them to keep winning. They’re coming into Week 17 after winning four of the previous five games.
Their most recent win happened last Sunday when they beat the favored Patriots, who were on a 7-game win series before that game.

There’s no doubt that Arizona has better players than Indianapolis. However, the Cards are not in a great run nor do they have too much motivation to win in Week 17. It’s just the opposite when the Colts are concerned.
